Amy Winehouse Back On Top Of The Charts
By Robert Paul Reyes
"Amy Winehouse, found dead at her London home on Saturday, occupied top slot on the iTunes UK download chart 24 hours later with 'Back to Black,' the 2006 album that won five Grammy awards in the United States and turned the troubled north London girl into an international star."
Amy Winehouse was the antithesis of the pre-packaged pop star, the pop diva exuded raw energy - she was as real as an overdose.
Auto-tuned pop divas like Britney Spears and Miley Cyrus are a dime a dozen. The formula for success for a female pop singer is simple: Dress her up like a prostitute, write controversial lyrics for her, and overproduce her records so that her tinny voice will be lost in the mix.
For every hundred of these witless wenches, there is an original like Amy Winehouse. Every Winehouse song was a roller coaster of emotion, at the end of her songs you felt emotionally depleted but satisfied.
The troubled singer's songs are back on top of the charts, many people who barely know anything about her are buying her albums. Once these folks are exposed to real genius, they will never again buy a CD from the pop flavor of the month.
