Cold Front Coming to The Northeast: Great Time to Get Outdoors
By Meghan Evans, AccuWeather.com Meteorologist.
A cold front has pushed through the Great Lakes and Northeast, allowing the return of drier and more comfortable air, for now.
The refreshing air is encompassing much of the Great Lakes and the interior Northeast. Chicago, Ill., Detroit, Mich., Buffalo, N.Y., Erie and Pittsburgh, Pa. are included.
An area of high pressure building into the region will promote the dry weather and sunshine.
Meteorologist Brian Edwards said this past weekend that the middle of the week will be a great time to get outdoors and enjoy the weather in the Northeast. However, he reminds us to wear sunscreen if you will be outdoors for a while.
State College, Pa., is home to the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, July 13-17, 2011. Beautiful weather is in store the arts festival with highs expected to be in the lower 80s, a comfortable humidity and sunshine. This is great news for people heading out to see the hundreds of artists and entertainment.
For communities farther to the south, including Philadelphia and Washington, D.C., it will remain hot today. Highs will be in the 90s in these cities. However, humidity levels will be falling later today and especially tonight.
In New York City, there will be less heat and humidity, but people heading outdoors will still want to dress in light-fitting, loose clothing and drink plenty of water. The high will reach the upper 80s with a falling humidity. The change to more comfortable air will become more established tonight and on Thursday.
In fact, the entire Northeast will get in on the relief with lower temperatures and lower humidity on Thursday, all the way southward through the mid-Atlantic.
Highs will top out in the 70s and 80s across the Northeast on both Thursday and Friday.
Over the weekend, warmer and more humid air will make a comeback as the area of high pressure shifts eastward off the Northeast Coast. This will draw muggy air in from the southwest, making it more uncomfortable outside.
Highs will climb well into the 80s across parts of the Northeast with the humidity making it feel like the upper 90s for many areas. Chicago and Detroit will roast with highs soaring back into the 90s through early next week.
Cooling off at a pool or the beach is a good idea for this weekend!
