While Rheumatologists' Awareness and Familiarity with KRYSTEXXA Has Increased Compared to Two Months Ago, Post-Launch Metrics Including Usage Are Still Lower Compared to Analog Launches in Gout and RA
EXTON, Penn. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - BioTrends Research Group, LLC finds that, while surveyed rheumatologists
agree that KRYSTEXXA's unique mechanism of action, its ability to be
used in refractory gout patients, and its ability to break down uric
acid are its three greatest advantages, they indicate that their usage
has been hampered mainly by concerns regarding anaphylaxis or infusion
reactions, followed by its mode of administration, i.e. an infusion
every two weeks. While awareness, familiarity and ease of the managed
care process remain consistent with analog launches for Gout and
Rheumatoid Arthritis for this same time period, physician trial is below
for these same benchmarks.
Fourteen percent of the surveyed rheumatologists report that they
have initiated Savient's KRYSTEXXA (pegloticase) in at least one patient
during this second wave of the LaunchTrends:
Krystexxa report series and are relatively satisfied
with the product. Of those surveyed rheumatologists who had prescribed
KRYSTEXXA, they report that forty-five percent of their patients were
switched from either Allopurinol or Uloric (febuxostat). Overall
projections for use in the next six months are favorable.
LaunchTrends:
Krystexxa is a series of three post-launch syndicated
reports designed to track the uptake of Savient's KRYSTEXXA at one
month, three months and six months following its commercial
availability. In the current wave of research, which measures
KRYSTEXXA's market impact at three months post launch, BioTrends
surveyed 76 rheumatologists and conducted qualitative interviews with a
subset of 19 of the respondents in June 2011. BioTrends will continue to
track the uptake of KRYSTEXXA in the Wave 3 six-months post-launch
report, which will be published in September 2011, and in the ongoing TreatmentTrends:
Gout U.S. report series published twice a year and TreatmentTrends:
Gout EU published annually.
