Hong Kong Business Opportunities to Shine in UK Spotlight

"Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" Promotion Set for London in September

Hong Kong, July 13, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Hong Kong's advantages for United Kingdom companies eager to explore the dynamic markets of the Chinese mainland and Asia will be highlighted in a week-long event in London this September.

"Think Asia, Think Hong Kong," 12-16 September, will feature a symposium and a range of seminars led by high-profile speakers from Hong Kong and the UK. Business leaders, senior government officials and international celebrities will take part, underlining Hong Kong's role as the services centre of Asia. The Hong Kong showcase will also spotlight arts and entertainment, with a Hong Kong film series, a street carnival, a wine-and-food promotion and other events.

Major Support

The programme is organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), with the backing of 17 Hong Kong partners. They include InvestHK, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Ltd, the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation, the Hong Kong Design Centre and the Law Societyof Hong Kong. British supporting organisations include UK Trade & Investment, the China-Britain Business Council, the British Chambers of Commerce, the CityUK and the London Chamber of Commerce.

"Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" is expected to attract corporate leaders, small and medium-sized enterprises, services providers, economists and academics looking for the latest opportunities and insights on doing business in Asia.

"With Asia leading the global recovery, the economic compass of British businesses should be pointing firmly East," said Britain's Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs William Hague. Mr Hague was speaking in Hong Kong at the Asian Financial Forum 2011, a two-day economic summit that took place in January.

Symposium Centrepiece

Think Asia, Think Hong Kong will feature a symposium, 13 September, at The Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre in London. Speakers will include HSBC Group Chairman Douglas Flint, Li & Fung Limited Chairman Dr Victor Fung, Britain's Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Stephen Green, and Jardine Matheson Holdings Managing Director Anthony Nightingale. Visiting Hong Kong in March, Lord Green noted that Hong Kong is a great base to explore Asia. "Theopportunities in Asia," he added, "are tremendous."

Seminars covering finance, logistics, technology, the creative industries and other sectors will also take place. Norman Chan, Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Stanley Hui, Chief Executive Officer of Hong Kong Airport Authority, and Victor Lo, Chairman of Board of Directors, Hong Kong Design Centre will be among nearly 50 speakers taking part in the sessions.

Hong Kong Life

A Hong Kong film premiere and select Hong Kong films will be screened, 12-16 September, alongside the main programme. In addition, the Hong Kong Tourism Board will organise a Hong Kong street carnival, 12-18 September. Daily performances will be held on South Molton Street from noon each day. As well, a Tourism Board food-and-wine promotion will take place at Mews of Mayfair Restaurant & Bar, in Lancashire Court, 12-25 September.

Leeds to Follow

"Think Asia, Think Hong Kong" will also travel to Leeds for a half-day seminar, 14 September. The session will focus on Hong Kong as the UK's sourcing and marketing partner in Asia.
