Quad/Graphics Announces Executive Leadership Changes in Latin America
SUSSEX, Wis. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Quad/Graphics Inc. (NYSE: QUAD), the largest commercial printer in Latin
America, today announced the appointment of Tony Scaringi to President &
General Manager of Latin America, effective August 1, 2011. Mr. Scaringi
will succeed current President of Latin America, Guy Trahan. Mr. Trahan
will officially retire on December 31, 2011, and remain involved with
the company in an advisory role until that time to help smooth the
transition of leadership to his long-time associate Mr. Scaringi, who
presently serves as the company's Chief Financial Officer of Latin
America.
"I would like to thank Guy for his many years of service and significant
contributions to Quad/Graphics and to the entire printing industry,"
said Joel Quadracci, Chairman, President & CEO of Quad/Graphics. "He has
been one of the most recognizable and respected individuals in printing
in Latin America for nearly 15 years, and we applaud his many
achievements. Throughout his time leading in Latin America, he has
worked closely with Tony Scaringi to grow a sizable and competitive
presence in this large and emerging market. As Guy now transitions into
retirement, I have full confidence in Tony's ability to continue to
direct this important segment of our business, especially having been
mentored by Guy all these years. I look forward to what he and our
united team of nine facilities in Latin America can accomplish together."
As President & General Manager, Mr. Scaringi will be responsible for
overseeing all aspects of Latin American operations, which includes
plants in Argentina, Brazil, Chile (a partnership with the Aguirre
family), Cólombia, Perú and Mexico. In addition, he will work closely
with Plural Editora e Gráfica, Quad/Graphics' joint venture in São
Paulo, Brazil.
"Together, all these facilities form a strong base from which we'll
continue to help clients in Latin America and in the United States reach
their business goals," Mr. Scaringi said. "Our wide-ranging geographical
coverage in six countries on two continents enables us to provide local
printing expertise with vast export capabilities. I'm excited to build
upon our strong foundation as we continue to maximize the relevance and
the power of print."
Mr. Quadracci further commented: "We're committed to maintaining a
modern Latin American production platform for producing high-quality
products in the most timely, efficient manner. Through the strategic
application of state-of-the-art technology and automation - and
industry-leading innovation - we're driving the future of print in
markets across the globe. The same principles of continuous improvement,
lean enterprise, technical education and safety that are helping fuel
Quad/Graphics' success in the United States are being implemented and
embraced in our Latin American network of facilities. We are committed
to creating the most efficient, productive printing platform in Latin
America for serving the magazine, catalog, retail insert, book,
directory and direct mail segments."
About Tony Scaringi
Mr. Scaringi, who is fluent in five languages, began his career in print
in 1993 when he joined Quebecor Printing as an Internal Auditor at the
company's Montreal headquarters. This role afforded him the opportunity
to visit more than 70 facilities worldwide in the span of two years, and
provided him with invaluable experience and insight into international
operations.
In the years following, Mr. Scaringi was promoted to key roles in
Quebecor Printing - Canada before carrying out a special assignment in
Milan, Italy, in 1997. That same year, he relocated to Chile to serve in
the dual roles of Plant Controller for the company's Santiágo facility
and Corporate Controller for all Latin American operations.
In 2000, Mr. Scaringi transferred to Recife, Brazil, to manage Quebecor
World's new-plant startup there. He also served as Plant Controller for
the Recife facility while continuing in his role as Corporate Controller
for Latin America. Two years later, he relocated to Buenos Aires,
Argentina, and was promoted to Vice President of Finance and
Administration for Latin America. As Quebecor World continued its
rapid-fire expansion throughout Latin America, Mr. Scaringi played a key
role in each strategic acquisition.
When Quad/Graphics acquired Worldcolor (previously part of Quebecor
World) in 2010, Mr. Scaringi continued in his role as Chief Financial
Officer of Latin America. In this role, he was responsible for managing
all financial and accounting, human resources and IT functions across
all plants in the platform, as well as a variety of sales and
operational functions.
About Guy Trahan
Mr. Trahan has served as Quad/Graphics' President of Latin America since
the company's acquisition of Worldcolor last year. In this role, he has
managed operations for a network of nine printing plants in Mexico,
Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cólombia and Perú.
After working in executive positions in sales, production and marketing
with companies such as Procter & Gamble, Uniboard Canada and Cummins,
Mr. Trahan began his print career in 1985 when he was named Vice
President and General Manager of Printing Resources for the Canadian
printer Gazette, a division of Southam Printing Ltd. He joined Quebecor
Printing in 1988 as President of the Eastern Canada Group, responsible
for 11 printing plants, and played a key role in restructuring
Quebecor's printing facilities.
Mr. Trahan was promoted to Quebecor's President of the Eastern Canada
and Specialty Groups and Executive Vice President of Canada in 1993.
That same year he was one of three winners of the "Nouveaux Performants"
award, which honors executives who have made exceptional contributions
to their companies' efficiencies.
In 1997 Mr. Trahan was named President of Latin America for Quebecor
Printing, directing the printing and sales operations of a network of
plants in six countries.
