PITTSBURGH and BATESBURG, S.C., July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- U.S. Senator Jim DeMint's Regional Director, Ian Headley, and U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham's Regional Director, Yvette Rowland, recently visited with the hundreds of employees at the Batesburg, SC manufacturing plant of Ansaldo STS, a globally leading signaling, train control and transportation solution provider.

A key aspect of Headley's responsibilities include fostering an understanding of Senator DeMint's constituents' interests and supporting the Senator as he addresses their concerns with the federal government. During his visit to Ansaldo STS on behalf of Senator DeMint, who was in Washington D.C., Headley was briefed on the potential reregulation of the rail industry and its possible negative effects on railroads and their suppliers, such as Ansaldo STS.

Ansaldo STS, previously known in the United States as Union Switch & Signal, employs over 4,300 people worldwide, many in the Batesburg manufacturing plant, which is the second largest employer in the town. The facility was opened in the 1960's and has grown to encompass a multi-building campus with over 180,000 square feet of fabrication, assembly, testing and office space.

The facility packages and ships a wide array of components and systems for Railroads and Mass Transit Authorities worldwide. Each year, the products and systems manufactured and assembled at the Ansaldo STS plant in Batesburg are shipped to over 40 countries.

During his visit, Headley had the opportunity to tour the facility, get a first-hand look at the technology that is produced at Ansaldo STS and meet the men and women who have made careers there.

"South Carolina is one of the best places in the world to do business, and it is important to understand the challenges our local businesses face when they're creating jobs in our communities, especially challenges created by the federal government," said Headley. "Ansaldo STS's plant in Batesburg is a great example of continued growth within a community through the development of long-term, career jobs in a high-tech field."

Ansaldo STS, listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, is an International leading technology company that supplies transport solutions and signaling technology in the global Railway & Mass Transit Transportation business with the provision of traffic management, planning, train control and signaling systems, and services.
