Cloud Standards Customer Council Publishes Cloud Use Cases; Elects Steering Committee at First Quarterly Meeting

Working Groups Established and SDO Liaison Officer Appointed

NEEDHAM, Mass., July 5, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Cloud Standards Customer Council (CSCC) members elected a Steering Committee, announced the publication of a library of cloud use cases, established working groups and have appointed Andrew Watson, vice president, OMG, as liaison officer to standards development organizations (SDOs) at their first quarterly meeting held on Tuesday, June 21 in Salt Lake City, UT.

Steering Committee Elected

CSCC members have elected a Steering Committee, which will provide overall management of CSCC, set priorities and directions, approve working groups and vote on white papers and other deliverables that come from CSCC. Melvin Greer, Senior Fellow and Chief Strategist, Cloud Computing, Lockheed Martin who had been acting as interim chair, was elected as chair of CSCC steering committee. Initial members include AGEECC, CloudOne, Cutter Consortium, IBM, Itron, Kaavo, Lockheed Martin, Servoy, Software AG, SurePass, Symantec, and Wohl Associates. Additional nominations are still being received to complete the Steering Committee.

Working Groups approved

The CSCC Steering Committee approved the following Working Groups:

    --  Practical Guide to Cloud Computing, led by Melvin Greer, Lockheed Martin
    --  Service Model working groups including: Infrastructure as a Service
        (IaaS); Software as a Service (SaaS); and Platform as a Service (PaaS)
    --  Interoperability in the Cloud
    --  Cloud Reference Architecture
    --  Business Patterns for the Cloud
    --  Legal Considerations for the Cloud
    --  Social Business Cloud Standards
    --  Industry-related working groups focusing on Cloud Requirements,
        including: Education, Financial Services, Government, Retail and
        Telecommunications

The Working Groups have started their discussions. To contribute to the above activities, one must be a member of the Cloud Standards Customer Council (www.cloud-council.org/application). After soliciting cloud use cases from the membership, the first submissions have been posted online and are available to the public. These use cases and subsequent submissions will be used to help inform the working groups in their efforts. Use cases drive the requirements and priorities that CSCC will deliver to standards organizations, and also help the working groups determine best practices for cloud computing implementation as well as form the basis for the cloud computing case study awards program.
