Playing Toy Soldiers
Ever since Korea we have been engaging in non-wars. These are not declared per the constitution. There is no declared goal. No victory or surrender is achieved. Korea ended in a standoff and Vietnam ended in a humiliating retreat.
In both cases thousands of Americans died for no apparent reason. When we moved on to fighting "terrorism" it got more bizarre. We now became concerned about "collateral damage." Terms like "surgical strike,""limited engagement" and "timed withdrawal" are used. After vague "goals" are reached, our surviving soldiers are brought home.
What about the soldiers who died or are maimed for life? What did they sacrifice for? Are they pawns in a giant game? What kind of country have we become?
