NEW YORK, June 15, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Social Media Week (www.socialmediaweek.org), the leading global conference on emerging trends in social and mobile media announced today that event submission has opened for its Fall conference. Reflecting the global impact of social media - and its role as a catalyst in driving cultural, political and social changes in emerging markets - Social Media Week (SMW) has expanded to twelve cities across four continents. During the week of September 19, SMW will take place simultaneously in Los Angeles, Chicago, Milan, Berlin, Glasgow, Vancouver, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Bogota, Buenos Aires, Beirut and Moscow.

Social Media Week is a 5-day conference hosted twice a year in multiple cities around the world. As part of the September event, Social Media Week is inviting a community of communications leaders to join a global conversation to explore how social media is shaping the way society connects and communicates.

Far more than just a conference, Social Media Week is one of the world's most unique global platforms, offering a series of interconnected activities and conversations across the world on emerging trends in social and mobile media across all major industries. Taking place in twenty cities this year, the September conference is the fifth edition of the biannual Social Media Week, following a February 2011 conference in nine cities featuring 35,000 participants attending over 600 events worldwide.

"Social Media Week is truly a global phenomenon--showcasing borderless brands and communications, via the power of social media," said Bonin Bough, Global Director of Social and Digital Media for PepsiCo, Social Media Week. "We are proud to have been an integral partner--with PepsiCo employees contributing to discussions and idea exchanges on three continents and demonstrating the depth and breadth to which digital media is permeating our company."

Social Media Week is founded on a principle of frictionless involvement and participation, and the event submission process is no different, from the ease in which it allows organizations and individuals of any size or stature to participate by hosting events. Also, as the world's largest distributed conference, Social Media Week utilizes communal collaboration from around the world to help each city's conference grow and take form.

The event submission process will begin on Wednesday, June 15th and run for one month until Friday, July 15th, after which point only select further events will be added. Event submittors should receive a reply as to whether or not their event has been accepted within two weeks, or by July 29 at the latest.

Event partners take on all shapes and sizes. In the past, event partners have included companies such as The New York Times, BBC, Ogilvy, The Nielsen Company, Time Inc., Saatchi & Saatchi.

"Hosting Social Media Week's Business, Media & Communications Hub at JWT was a great thing for us to do. All told, we saw about 3,000 people come through our doors," said David Eastman, JWT CEO North America and Worldwide Digital Director. "Together we took part in an important conversation about the nature of human and technological integration. There was great networking, lots of brain food, and more than a few laughs."

Support from corporate partnerships, both globally and locally, allows Social Media Week to provide hundreds of free events worldwide for its audience of hyper-social influencers. The global headline sponsor for Social Media Week in 2011 is NOKIA. Other past global supporting sponsors of Social Media Week have been PepsiCo, JWT, Meebo and Salesforce.com, and local sponsors around the globe have included AOL, YouTube, Oi Telecommunications, Vodafone, Fiat, Santander, and SapientNitro.

"Social Media Week does not disappoint. It is a real-world manifestation of some of the best that new technology has to offer - ideas, strategies and insights shared by the people who are shaping the future," said Ellen McGirt, Senior Writer, Fast Company.

Organizing an event is not the only way to get involved in Social Media Week. If you or your organization would like to get involved as a sponsor, venue host, speaker, or media/technology partner, go here to learn more, or contact Ben Scheim at ben@crowdcentric.net.
