Cat Comes Down From Tree After 9 Days
By Robert Paul Reyes
"It took nine days for Buster the cat to get out of a 150-foot-tall loblolly pine.
Buster's owner, Linda Megretto, said she expected to find him dead on the ground Monday morning, but her husband, Andrew, climbed to the top of a 40-foot ladder and coaxed the cat down.
'That cat stayed during two storms and hung onto that tree,' Megretto said. 'It was his ninth day, and I figure he'd gone through his ninth life.'

Buster was scared by a neighbor and his instinct was to climb up as high as possible on a tree. Buster is a typical scaredy cat -- he was afraid to climb down.
Buster reminds me of the typical American president who rushes into war without having any contingency plans for getting out of the mess.
In a more innocent time the fire department would have rescued the cat, and Megretto would have offered the firefighters cookies and milk.
But for liability reasons most municipalities prohibit firefighters from rescuing cats from trees The cat owner called the Humane Society, fire department and animal control and they all told her she was on her own.
Linda's husband finally coaxed the critter down from the tree on the ninth day. There's no telling how many of his nine lives Buster's adventure cost him.
The Humane Society recommends leaving foot at the base of the tree when a cat is too afraid to climb down from a tree.
