Air New Zealand Wants Your Shoulder Pads and Parachute Pants
LOS ANGELES - (BUSINESS WIRE) - In celebration of its newest in-flight
safety video featuring '80s exercise icon Richard
Simmons, Air
New Zealand today launched a photo contest to find the American with
the best (and by best, we mean worst) '80s style.
Whether sporting neon spandex, power bangs or some sweet shoulder pads,
contestants are invited to share photos of themselves resplendent in
1980s attire. Those who burned all evidence of themselves from the '80s,
or who are too young to remember when parachute pants and acid wash
jeans first made the scene, are welcome to participate by dressing up
for a photo in their best '80s garb.
-
To participate, contestants can upload their photos to the Like
Totally 80's contest tab on the Air
New Zealand - USA Facebook page between April 13 and April 20,
2011.
-
Public voting will happen between April 21 and 30 (limit one vote per
person for any given entry per day).
-
The 10 photos which receive the most public votes via Facebook will
then be judged by a panel of Air New Zealand employees between May 1
and 9.
-
The person with the best '80s photo will win round-trip economy
airfare for two from Los Angeles or San Francisco to Auckland,
NZ.
-
Winners will be announced May 9.
"Air New Zealand takes safety seriously," says Kathryn Gregory, Director
of Marketing - The Americas, Air New Zealand. "At the same time, we love
to showcase our sense of humor. Richard Simmons drew attention to
in-flight safety in an entertaining way, and we're thrilled to pay
tribute to his safety video with a contest that encourages people to
laugh at their funniest fashion blunders."
The new Fit
to Fly video features Simmons providing passengers with in-flight
safety instruction in the manner of a 1980s aerobics class. Phil Keoghan
of the "The Amazing Race" and Air New Zealand's Chief Executive Officer,
Rob Fyfe (2:02, pink shorts, blue headband) also make an appearance.
In addition to the first prize of a round-trip economy flight for two to
New Zealand, first and second runners-up in the Like Totally 80's
contest will win an iPod compatible boombox (1st runner-up) and a case
of Tab soda and 80's accessories (2nd runner-up).
For full contest terms and conditions go to www.facebook.com/airnewzealandusa
and click on the Like Totally 80's tab on the left side of the
page.
