Constellation Energy "Power Play" for Capitals' Playoff Series Highlights Electric Choice Savings for Washington, D.C., Maryland Residents
BALTIMORE - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Constellation Energy (NYSE: CEG), a leading competitive electricity
supplier and presenting sponsor of the Washington Capitals' playoff bid,
is offering Pepco's Washington, D.C. and Maryland electric customers
price certainty and potential savings of 6 to 12 percent compared with
their current home electricity rates.
Constellation Energy is promoting the special "power play" savings
during the National Hockey League's playoff series between the
Washington Capitals and New York Rangers which began Wednesday at
Verizon Center.
More than 150,000 Washington, D.C. households in the Pepco service
territory may be eligible to take advantage of two Constellation Energy
options to potentially save against Pepco's current price of Standard
Offer Service electricity for rate Schedule R: a one-year plan to lower
their current electricity rate by 6 percent, or a two-year plan with a
10 percent rate reduction compared with Pepco's current price.
Constellation Energy, through its Constellation Electric subsidiary, is
also offering a two-year plan with potential savings of 12 percent
compared to Pepco's current Standard Offer Service price for residents
under Schedule R in Maryland.*
"Because Maryland and Washington, D.C. let electricity suppliers compete
for your business, you win. Constellation is proud to help power homes
and businesses in the nation's capital," said Jim Connaughton,
Constellation Energy executive vice president for Corporate Affairs,
Public and Environmental Policy. "Let's go Caps!"
Bruce Stewart, chief marketing officer for Constellation Energy, added,
"We are thrilled to sponsor the Capitals' championship bid while also
giving Washington, D.C. area residents their own power play -- the
opportunity to shop and potentially save on their electricity rate at
home. More and more residential customers are demanding a choice in
electricity providers, just as they did with Internet and phone service.
We are excited to meet that demand while also providing leading energy
services to Washington, D.C. and Maryland business and public sector
customers."
Constellation Energy's prominent public customers include the U.S.
Capitol, the Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Institution, the FBI and the
Federal Reserve.
In addition to Washington, D.C., Constellation Energy previously
announced residential electric offers to homeowners and renters in
Maryland, New Jersey and Illinois.
For Pepco customers who choose Constellation Energy in Washington, D.C.
and Maryland, Pepco will continue to bill their accounts, deliver
electricity over the same poles and wires, and handle inquiries about
service outages. Customers can switch to a competitive electric supplier
and it will have no impact on utility service reliability. For more
information on eligibility and enrollment, and for full offer and
pricing terms and conditions, consumers may visit home.constellation.com
* Constellation Energy includes its subsidiaries, Constellation
NewEnergy, Inc. and BGE Home Products & Services, Inc. doing business as
Constellation Electric. BGE HOME is not the same company as BGE, a
regulated utility. Electric service offered and provided by
Constellation NewEnergy in D.C. (D.C. Electric Supplier License DOCKET
EA01-5, ORDER# 12039) and by Constellation Electric in Maryland (MD
Electricity Supplier License # IR-228). Estimated savings are calculated
against Pepco-DC's and Pepco-MD's current price of Standard Offer
Service (SOS) electricity for rate Schedule R. Pepco-DC's current SOS
electricity for rate Schedule R is 11.06¢/kWh in effect through May 31,
2011, subject to Pepco-DC's monthly Procurement Cost Adjustment. Savings
for residential customers on Pepco-DC's rate Schedules AE, RAD, RAD AE
and RTM may be lower or a customer may not see any savings. Pepco-DC's
price for SOS electricity for rate Schedule R is 10.05¢/kWh from June 1,
2011 through Oct. 31, 2011, and 9.63¢/kWh from Nov. 1, 2011 through May
31, 2012, subject to Pepco-DC's monthly Procurement Cost Adjustment.
Pepco-DC's price of SOS electricity after May 31, 2012 has not yet been
set. Pepco-MD's current price for SOS electricity is 10.36¢/kWh from
Oct. 1, 2010 through May 31, 2011. Pepco-MD's weighted average price of
SOS electricity is 11.19¢/kWh through May 31, 2011 for rate class R and
11.13¢/kWh for rate class RTM. Accordingly, for rate class RTM
customers, savings will be slightly lower. Pepco-MD's price of SOS
electricity after May 31, 2011 has not yet been set. All prices quoted
are for electricity commodity supply service (including transmission)
only and do not include any applicable taxes, utility distribution
charges or other utility fees or charges.
