Asia's Largest Spring Electronics Fair Opens with Record Turnout

Wide Product Range at Hong Kong Show and Concurrent ICT Expo, Lighting Fair

Tokyo, Apr 13, 2011 - (ACN Newswire) - Three international trade fairs, including Asia's largest spring electronics show, opened today and continue through 16 April at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), featuring a wide range of green products, advanced technology andinnovation.

More than 3,670 exhibitors from 31 countries and regions are on hand for the HKTDC Hong Kong Electronics Fair (Spring Edition), the HKTDC International ICT Expo and the HKTDC Hong Kong International Lighting Fair (Spring Edition), allorganised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC).

The HKTDC has organised 175 buying missions and invited nearly 10,000 major importers, distributors and retailers from around the world to source at the three fairs. Among the buyers are big names such as Argentina's System One SRL and Red Marquez SA; Li Qun Group and China Resources Vanguard from the Chinese mainland; Electro Land Co Ltd from South Korea; India's Future group; NTUC Fairprice from Singapore; and Monster Cable fromthe United States.

HKTDC Deputy Executive Director Benjamin Chau said Hong Kong's exports of electronics, ICT and lighting products did well in 2010. "The three fairs will draw more than 100,000 visitors, and further expand export growth," he said, adding that digital technology, mobile communications and innovative consumer electronics are likely to be among the most popular products in the fairs.

In response to market needs, the HKTDC has set up three new zones at the fair to feature smartphones and tablets, eAccessories and new products catering to elderly consumers. A series of seminars is also being held to explore the market potential of the items and discuss topics such as safety regulations and other product and market trends.

Electronics Demand

Now in its eighth edition, the electronics fair welcomes more than 2,450 exhibitors, including first-time participants from Monaco, Sweden and Ukraine. Three group pavilions have also been set up to feature exhibitors fromthe mainland, South Korea and Taiwan.

The fair's Hall of Fame has returned with a premium section of nearly 500 leading brands, including Coby, Desay, Foryou, Goodway, Hanvon, Haier, Lenco, Motorola, Philips, and Tunbow. Other theme zones cater toAudio Visual Products, Digital Imaging, Personal Electronics, Home Appliances, In-Vehicle Electronics and Navigation Systems, Solar Photovoltaic Technology and Telecommunications Products.

In 2010, Hong Kong exported HK$1,691billion worth of electronics products, up 28 per cent over 2009. Its top export markets were the mainland, the US, Japan, Taiwan and South Korea.

ICT Innovation

The eighth ICT Expo welcomes 577 exhibitors, including newcomers from Poland and Russia. The fair also presents six pavilions for exhibitors from Australia, Canada, the mainland, India, the Philippines and Taiwan.

To showcase Hong Kong's home-grown innovation, exhibits are also being presented by the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Applied Science and Technology Research Institute, Hong Kong City University, Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. "The fair is ideal for promoting technology that can be commercialised and for connecting with potential partners," said Mr Chau.

Exhibitors providing e-logistics and retail technology are at the fair, along with those from sectors such as cloud computing and open source, telecom, networking and wireless, enterprise solutions andIT outsourcing.On 15 April, the fair will host the ICT Award Presentation Ceremony to celebrate the industry's success and promote innovative ICT solutions.

Hong Kong's total exports of information technology products jumped 33 per cent, to HK$333billion last year, with major markets including the mainland, the US, Japan, South Korea and Germany.

Lighting the WaY

The third edition of the lighting fair is hosting nearly 650 exhibitors, a 70 per cent increase over last year. Products created for domestic, commercial and architectural lighting needs are on display. Among the 12 countries and regions represented by exhibitors are newcomers from France, Macau, the Netherlands and Spain. Also in the Hall 5FG concourse, a "Make the Mood"display zone presents prestigious lighting pieces.

Reflecting strong demand for environmentally friendly lighting products, more than 460 exhibitors are grouped into the fair's LED Lighting and Green Lighting zones - twice as many as last year. Buyers can also focus their sourcing efforts through a Decorative Lighting zone, as well as zones for Lighting Accessories, Parts & Components and Technical Lighting.

Hong Kong's lighting products exports increased 10 per cent, to HK$10 billion last year, with the US, the mainland, Japan, Germany and the UK the major markets.

Sourcing Goes Mobile

The fairs also introduce new HKTDC sourcing applications for iPad and iPhone mobile devices, providing access to HKTDC Product Magazines. Thesoftware features functions for exhibitor and product searches, multimedia product presentations, tools for bookmarking, notes, voice recording and sharing. The application can be downloaded free from Apple's App Store.
