The Crossing Church Inspires Hundreds to Run for Clean Water
ST. LOUIS - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Crossing Church, a non-denominational Christian church in
Chesterfield and Fenton, announced more than 240 people from both
campuses will be taking part in the 2011 GO! St. Louis Marathon
activities on Sunday, April 10 all to raise money for Living
Water, an organization that helps bring clean drinking water to
millions of people across the globe.
For several years, The Crossing has helped raise both money and
awareness of Living Water and the plight of those who lack access to
safe drinking water. 150 people from the church ran in last year's
marathon, raising $46,000 dollars for the cause and this past Christmas,
The Crossing raised over $500,000 for Living Water. This weekend, even
more people are expected to run to help those in need of this human
essential, including Living Water CEO Mike Mantel.
"The Crossing and Living Water share the same heartbeat. Nothing can
exist without water," said Tony Biaggne, The Crossing's Director of
Creative Communications. "You can't build hospitals, you can't build
schools and you can't build a strong economy without healthy people.
Joining with Living Water, we knew we could be an inspiration around the
world."
Living Water CEO Mike Mantel is coming to St. Louis to run to show his
appreciation for what The Crossing has done to raise awareness and money
for his group. Over the past four years, the church has raised more than
$1.85 Million for Mantel's organization.
Derek Glanville is part of The Crossing's efforts. He and his 16-year
old son Sean will be part of this year's event. Sean suffered brain
trauma after a car accident in 2007. Given only a 1% chance of survival,
Sean is beating the odds and continues to make progress. His father will
be assisting Sean in this year's GO! St. Louis Marathon.
The 11th annual GO! St. Louis Marathon begins this Sunday at
7:00am and includes a traditional 26.2 mile course as well as a half
marathon and a marathon relay.
