Lincoln's Annual Think Yellow, Go Green Recycling Program Kicks Off This Week

The Berry Company asks Lincoln residents to Think Yellow, Go Green with the third annual telephone directory recycling program. The program kicked off April 4, 2011, and will run through May 1, 2011. With the new 2011 Windstream Yellow Pages recently distributed to homes and businesses in Lincoln, it's an excellent time to recycle all outdated directories.

For the third consecutive year, the Cornhusker Council Boy Scouts are partnering with Berry to drive this recycling program. In a unique local initiative, the Boy Scouts will work door-to-door in many neighborhoods collecting outdated telephone directories to fulfill requirements toward qualifying for the World Conservation Award. Directories can also be dropped off at several parks and recreation centers in and around Lincoln: Auld Recreation Center, Belmont Recreation Center, Easterday Recreation Center, F Street Recreation Center, Holmes Lake Park, Irving Recreation Center and the Outdoor Education Center / Cornhusker Council.

"We are proud to have partners that care about the sustainability of our Lincoln community just as much as we do," said Laura Cole, director of print product for Berry. "Support from the Cornhusker Council, Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska and Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department is key in helping make this year's Think Yellow, Go Green program even more successful."

The Cornhusker Council, Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska and the Lincoln Parks and Recreation Department are teaming up again this year in support of the recycling program and to help exceed last year's collection total of more than 65,000 pounds of outdated directories.

"We look forward to exceeding last year's recycling totals with the help of the Lincoln community," said Cole. "Lincoln residents can recycle outdated telephone directories, including directories from other publishers, at several area drop-off locations. Each directory recycled contributes to the success of the program and preserves our local environment."

"Our goal is to keep recyclable materials out of the landfill and put them back into the community," said Chris Zegar, owner of Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska. "The Think Yellow, Go Green Recycling Program is just another way that we can work toward a cleaner and more environmentally-friendly community."
