ST. LOUIS, April 6, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Webster University alumna Romaine Seguin, president of UPS Americas Region, was named the 2011 "Woman of Influence" by Webster University's George Herbert Walker School of Business & Technology during a luncheon at the University on April 4. Seguin is responsible for all UPS package and cargo operations in Canada and more than 50 countries and territories across Latin America and the Caribbean. She earned her MBA from Webster in 1996.

"Some executives manage, but the outstanding ones lead from where they are," said Dr. Benjamin Ola. Akande, dean of the University's Walker School. "There is no better example of an outstanding leader than Romaine Seguin."

Seguin began her career with UPS in Missouri in 1983 as a part-time hub supervisor. Over the next 28 years, she held a variety of management roles throughout the state, the country and Europe. Before assuming her current position in 2010, Seguin served as managing director of UPS South Europe and chief operating officer for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. She also was instrumental in the establishment of Metropolitan College, a program that provides college tuition for UPS Worldport employees in the Next Day Air Sort division.

"Each year, Webster University honors an individual who has impacted our society, a dynamic leader who is transforming our world," said Webster President Elizabeth (Beth) J. Stroble. "Romaine Seguin is that leader, who, through her career at UPS, has been a shining example of a responsible global citizen."

During her address at the award luncheon today, Seguin noted that as world borders disappear, business executives must transition from a local to a global perspective. "I highly recommend that if the opportunity presents itself, go study and work abroad," she said. "It's important to gain an understanding of the markets where you are. With international assignments, everything is different." Seguin also stressed the importance of learning a second language - Spanish in particular - and cited the need for more world history to be incorporated into high school and college curricula.

With its home campus in St. Louis, Webster University (www.webster.edu) is a worldwide institution committed to delivering high-quality learning experiences that transform students for global citizenship and individual excellence. Founded in 1915, Webster offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs through five schools and colleges, and a global network of campuses. Since opening its first campus overseas in Geneva in 1978, Webster has become a recognized leader and innovator in global education, with an international presence that now includes campuses in London; Vienna; Amsterdam and Leiden, the Netherlands; Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu, China; and Bangkok and Cha-am, Thailand.
