Top Hizbul Militant Killed in Kashmir Gunfight

Srinagar, March 3: A top militant of the pro-Pakistan militant outfit, Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in a gunfight with Indian soldiers in Indian administered Kashmir on Sunday.
A police official said police and army men launched a combing and search operation at village Tharna Keller area in Shopian, some 55 kms south of Srinagar, the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir after receiving inputs about the presence of some top militants in the area.
"As the soldiers were conducting house to house searches, they came under heavy volume of fire from the militants hiding in the area. The fire was returned by the soldiers and in the ensuing gunfight, a top Hizbul militant was killed," he said.
Identifying the deceased militant as Tariq Hussian alias Abu Zaid, the police official said an AK-56 Rifle, 3-Magazines and 88- live rounds of ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
