Ambassador Princeton Lyman Accepts Position as New Special Envoy for Sudan
Special Envoy for Sudan Princeton Lyman today gratefully accepted the position as the new Special Envoy for Sudan.
Mr. Lyman stressed that the support that President Obama and Secretary Clinton have given to the process in Sudan has been extraordinary and sustained. He reiterated that the Obama administration have worked so hard to keep Sudan from falling back into civil war, where millions of people die, and to achieve a peaceful outcome.
"I'm very grateful to you and to the President for the privilege of taking on this position.I also want to pay tribute to Scott Gration, who put so much of himself, his heart and soul, into this process for the last two-plus years. And Scott, thank you for everything you've done."-Mr. Lyman
Mr. Lyman underlined that 100 days more to go before July 9th, for South to become fully independent. He said there are still tough issues to negotiate.
Mr. Lyman will leave on Saturday for meetings in both Ethiopia and Sudan, where the parties are engaged in a whole range of issues for Sudan's welfare.
