SANYO HIT POWER® Solar Panels Produce More Power with New 225A for US Market

SAN JOSE, Calif., April 1, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- SANYO North America Corporation (SANYO) announces the availability of the HIT Power® 225A solar module in the United States, the most efficient HIT Power® solar module launched to date in the US. The 225A panel offers integrators and installers independently-certified cell conversion efficiencies of 20.2% and module efficiencies of 17.8%, and the new panels are available from SANYO-certified dealers starting immediately.

The new HIT Power® 225A solar modules will be on display in SANYO's booth (booth #1050) at PV America in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, April 3 to April 5, 2011.

SANYO HIT Power® panel power generation output is higher than traditional panels because of patented solar cell technology that combines two best-of solar technologies -- high efficiency monocrystalline silicon with ultra-thin layers of amorphous silicon. The monocrystalline silicon is sandwiched between the amorphous-Si for superior conversion efficiency as well as excellent temperature characteristics.

"SANYO's HIT Power® module performance gives integrators and installers 100% of the nameplate rated power - or more," noted Charles Hanasaki, President of the Solar & Smart Energy Division. "With a co-efficient of -0/+10%, HIT Power's warranted tolerance is the most generous the industry has to offer," he added.

Real-world performance/More power per square foot

The specifications for the panels speak for themselves for what the manufacturer expects in terms of power generation. However, HIT Power® panels are known for their real-world performance ability to generate more energy than traditional panels, especially useful in a limited amount of space. Furthermore, the HIT Power® line-up of products have also been demonstrated to perform well in less than ideal conditions, such as higher temperature or diffuse light conditions, when power production of conventional crystalline modules often wanes. The structure of the cell, with its hybrid technology, allows more clean energy production per square foot than conventional crystalline-only panels, even during the hottest time of the day.

"People often think the middle of the day is the best for solar power generation, which should be true but higher temperatures prevent panels from reaching higher output numbers. SANYO panels have been designed to perform better under these conditions," Hanasaki added. "More kilowatt hours (kWh) per rated watt means our customers can realize faster returns on their solar investments. That is the SANYO advantage."

The newest panel, the 225A, offers the most power generation per square foot that SANYO has offered in the United States to date.

Flexibility

For installers, incorporating HIT Power® modules into clean energy solutions for homes, businesses or public agencies also means fewer modules are required, something that conserves rooftop space and installation time. It also provides building owners with more flexibility in deploying rooftop solar solutions - despite less-than-ideal or limited space or awkward architectural impediments.

"SANYO has earned some of the industry's highest marks for its module design, field performance and energy output," notes Steve Bauhs, Director of Sales and Marketing for Colorado-based Simple Solar. "Typically, those who've done their research and know what they want, want SANYO," Bauhs said.

American-Made Quality & Environmental Stewardship

The SANYO silicon wafers and ingots employed in HIT Power® solar modules are proudly made in the USA. HIT Power modules are assembled in an ISO 9001 (quality), 14001 (environment) and 18001 safety-certified factory. In keeping with SANYO's environmental policies, SANYO's unique eco-packaging minimizes job site cardboard waste.

About HIT POWER®

HIT® stands for Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin-layer. HIT® solar cells employ a proprietary technology developed by SANYO whereby hybrid solar cells composed of single crystalline silicon wafers are surrounded by ultra-thin amorphous silicon layers. The unique structure minimizes defects within the p/n junction of the cell, producing highly efficient cells capable of achieving up to 17.4% module efficiency while producing more power even at higher temperatures.
