KeyTone and Collection Management System (CMS) Unveil Strategic Partnership to Deliver Secure Tracking and Inventory Solutions for Fine Art and Collectibles

CUPERTINO, Calif. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - KeyTone Technologies, a recognized leader in RFID solutions, announced today its strategic partnership with Collection Management System (CMS) to deliver fine art tracking and inventory solutions to museums, auction houses, art galleries, art collectors, and fine art shippers. The partnership has resulted in the release of an art tracking and inventory hardware and software solution targeted to customers who handle or store art and collectibles worldwide.

The ability of RFID to simultaneously read hundreds of tags in a few seconds provides a unique advantage for tracking high value collectibles for museum and art gallery exhibits, auction house logistics, and for fine art shippers. It allows staff to track movement and take inventory of artifacts without physically handling them, thus greatly reducing damage to collection items. When properly applied, RFID technology can achieve a 100% read accuracy; providing advantages over manual methods. Institutions can greatly benefit from RFID to help them track movements of their collections. Once a collection is labeled with RFID tags, any staff member can get instant access to information about any piece of interest. Information such as home location (needed when putting items away), conservation history, artist, or any other piece of information that already exists in the database can instantly be displayed. In addition, the Secure Tracking and Inventory Solution provides an unparalleled level of security that can track the slightest movement of an artwork and alert security personnel and systems instantaneously.

Several private collectors have recently deployed this solution to track and secure their private art collections. The solution helps the collector track artifact movement automatically, improve collection preservation through reduced handling, fast track inventory audits and work with existing security systems to provide alerts and notifications on any security issue.

"Tracking art collections accurately for security and inventory has always been a challenge for museums, auction houses, galleries, collectors and shippers. Our relationship with CMS will open new opportunities for KeyTone in this market," said Edwin Winder, EVP KeyTone. "We now have the capability to implement an end-to-end solution that will enable CMS customers to leverage RFID to maximize the use and security of all their expensive assets."

"CMS's partnership with KeyTone is part of a strategic move to cater to the real-time asset tracking and management needs of our wide network of enterprise customers in the art world," said Derek Reisfield, President CMS. "The partnership has already gained momentum with the successful implementation here in San Francisco for a significant private collection, and we are looking to gain an increasing market share in select market segments throughout the country."
