Business Goes on Even While States are Losing Jobs and Income
Comment on story: Can Online Tax Measure Destroy 25,000 California Businesses?
I am an affiliate, and your article is spot on.
One thing your article missed was this kind of legislation is being pushed by a group called the "Main Street Fairness Alliance." It's headed and funded by WalMart Target, Sears, Best Buy, etc. They say Internet based companies like Amazon & Overstock should collect sales tax just like other brick and mortar stores to create a "level" playing field.
Funny how companies like Walmart claim to want level playing field. In reality, they just want less competition and they all obviously don't care about the outcome of these laws. Only the affiliates get hurt. Business goes on as usual for Amazon, Overstock, and the like, and states lose jobs and income.
I don't live in California, but I am watching with interest from Connecticut as they are considering this law as well.
