On the 20th of March, 2011, the San Dieguito United Methodist Church and The Institute for Responsible Online and Cell-Phone Communication (IROC2) aligned to provide the community of Encinitas, CA with a nationally acclaimed and award winning digital safety, responsibility and awareness program titled, "The Course to Digital Consciousness.
This preventative and solution oriented live program is unique in that it provides audiences with greater insight into negative and malicious digital behaviors, trends and abuse beyond issues like sexting, cyber bullying and sextortion, and the means to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of a cyber-crime or digital exploitation through responsible digital decision making. It was awarded the 2010 Exemplary School Safety Program Award by the School Safety Advocacy Council, and has been presented to over 400 audiences across the United States since June 2009.
Cindy Wood Callant, a Parent of Teens, MSN, RN, and resident of Encinitas stated,
"The program was fantastic, was very well received, lots of positive comments. There have been a number of internet safety classes around the schools, but none of this caliber. Your presentation is a great service for youth and adults. I want to add that the book is a "must have." The live event has so much material, the book allows you time to review and reinforce learning of all the new information and reference as needed."
When asked about the program opening eyes and minds across the country about how to prevent digital dilemmas, IROC2's Executive Director Richard Guerry referred to this passage of his recently published book:
"Celebrities, media, and national organizations will not ultimately create the necessary shift in consciousness. You and every citizen in our global neighborhood 式 the "Secret Crowds" 式 will ultimately establish the Golden Rule of "Public and Permanent" and will break the cycle of ill-informed decision making 式 Blind Insanity.
Members of our global village must be independently responsible for their own actions, and it is up to each of us as individuals to change the way we think about and use digital tools and technologies 式 to evolve 式 to ultimately set an example and standard for future generations to learn from."
Become part of the "secret crowds" making a difference. Attend a live event or read the book, "Public and Permanent: The Golden Rule of the 21st Century" as they are two sources lighting the path to Digital EnlightenmentT. It is very easy for you to become an ambassador for change, and remember - change starts with you!"
