Travis AFB Personnel Urged Again Not to Fight
Travis AFB Targeted Again by Protesters Tuesday; Military Personnel Urged to 'Resist Endless Wars'
TRAVIS AFB/SUISUN CITY, Ca. - Travis Air Force Base and its military personnel are being targeted again here today by peace demonstrators who are urging them to "disarm, refuse and resist."
The anti-war protest begins today, 3-15-11, at 6:30 a.m. (to 9 a.m.) at the base main gate. Protesters will return for an action 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Veterans for Peace, Grandmothers Against War, Military Families Speak Out and CodePINK are among the protesters opposing the use of militarized robot drones by the U.S. and urging service members to refuse to fight and "resist" wars.
"We want all U.S. military personnel participating in drone programs to think seriously about these issues. Drone warfare will not make us safer. In fact, it's an assault on humanity, destabilizing the world, and we want the military to be aware of that and refuse to fight," says Toby Blome, Bay Area CodePINK organizer.
"Just as the Egyptian army ultimately supported the will of the masses, and just as Libyan pilots flee their country and refuse to follow orders to attack protesters, we are hoping that the U.S. military personal will follow the will of the majority in this country: 74 percent of the American public now want a withdrawal from Afghanistan. Americans want peace now," said Blome.
