"Macy's 2011 Flower Show will be the largest and most ambitious effort
in the show's history," said Robin Hall, executive producer of the
annual event. "Our five flagship shows in New York City, Philadelphia,
Chicago, Minneapolis and San Francisco with be joined by an all new show
this year, in Washington D.C., one that is being created as an extension
of the National Cherry Blossom Festival." Hall added, "In the course of
its two-week run, the Macy's Cherry Blossom Show at Metro Center will
feature a total of 60 pink Akame and white Snow Goose Cherries, two
delicate species that are not part of the show in the Tidal Basin." On
the D.C. Show, Hall concluded, "Macy's main floor will be transformed by
this exquisite landscape of soft color punctuated with a series of
beautiful Japanese gardens."
For more than 60 years, Macy's Flower Show has delighted generations of
floral aficionados with spectacular presentations of lush gardens that
showcase millions of live flowers, plants and trees from around the
globe. Blooming in unison despite the various climates from which they
may originate, Macy's Flower Show offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to
enjoy these magnificent blooms together in an unexpected setting.
The 2011 Macy's Flower Show - Towers of Flowers - will reach new
heights and horizons with incredible elements that make the theme soar.
From floral-infused renderings of fortified architecture and
world-famous landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, leaning Tower of Pisa
and the Hancock Tower in Chicago, to historic forts and towers of
fantasy including Jack and the Beanstalk, the Flower Show promises to
take winter-weary spectators on a tour of towering spectacles.
As a special tribute to the spring wedding of the season, Macy's Flower
Show will celebrate the year's most anticipated nuptials, the royal
wedding of Prince William. Via especially themed Royal Wedding table
setting displays, Macy's will bring the excitement of wedding
preparations to the home departments of the five flagship Flower Show
destinations. The royal wedding is not just the marriage of Prince
William and Kate Middleton; it's the joining of table top fashion and
modern, classic style. Featuring designs from Lenox
and the Marchesa by Lenox collections, the inspired displays
combine regal touches of gold accents and florals to bring royalty home
this season.
In addition to serving as the official celebration for the start of the
spring season, Macy's Flower Show will also showcase some of the
nation's most renowned floral and entertaining designers. These decor
wizards will bring to life a rotating Flower Show favorite - the Bouquet
of the Day. The one-of-kind creations are stunning centerpieces that
each convey the personal style of the designer - whether traditional,
contemporary or abstract. These limited-time floral masterpieces are
always a highlight of the show and will be in place at all six
presentations nationwide. In addition, to celebrate the new Sunglass Hut
shops opening within Macy's locations nationwide, special Sunglass Hut
gardens will sprout at all show locations with the latest must-have sun
wear accessories.
The floral extravaganza also extends to some of Macy's famed store
windows. In select locations, the windows will be transformed into
vibrant living gardens. The springtime fun includes two weeks of
in-store special events including fashion shows, cooking demonstrations
and celebrity appearances that will delight floral fanatics while
celebrating the rejuvenating power of the season. To get the public in
the mood for the spring awakening, for the first time ever, Macy's
Flower Show will scent its event advertising through a unique fragrance
technology by partner Celessence . The refreshing scent - a
combination of lavender and chamomile, will give the public a preview of
the lush garden smells that await their visit to the show.
Free to the public, Macy's Flower Show/Macy's Cherry Blossom Show will
be open during regular store hours.
Macy's springtime floral presentations are produced in partnership with
Bachman's (Downtown Minneapolis) and the National Cherry Blossom
Festival (Washington, D.C.).
