Merrill Brink International Hosts Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) Panel Discussion
ST. PAUL, Minn. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Merrill Brink International (www.merrillbrink.com),
a leading global provider of language solutions for global companies and
law firms, recently hosted a panel discussion in Washington, D.C. to
share information around best practices for avoiding Foreign Corrupt
Practices Act (FCPA) investigations. FCPA laws govern the actions of
entities that do business in other countries and are designed to prevent
unfair trade activities such as bribery of foreign officials.
The panel discussion at the March 1 event was conducted in conjunction
with key international law firms and corporations who support a variety
of industries with FCPA investigations and compliance programs. More
than 70 representatives from leading corporations and law firms attended.
Panelists focused on risks stemming from the actions of third-party
intermediaries such as agents, consultants, distributors, joint venture
partners and others who may do business on a company's behalf.
The panel discussion featured the following FCPA experts:
-
Mark Brzezinski - Partner, McGuireWoods LLP
-
Reagan Demas - Partner, Baker & McKenzie LLP
-
Colette Devine - Deputy Chief Compliance Officer, The AES Corporation
-
Pamela Parizek - Partner, KPMG
-
J. Patrick Rowan - Partner, McGuireWoods LLP
-
Richard Vestuto - Vice President of Client Advisory Services, Merrill
Corporation
"The panel agreed that it was critical that all stakeholders (corporate,
legal and forensic) align their interests and design a comprehensive set
of diligence and investigatory tools that start at the core and attack
investigations within their native language," said Jim Moore, executive
vice president, Merrill Brink International. "Merrill Brink and our
parent company, Merrill Corporation, are uniquely qualified and situated
within the legal value chain to provide an integrated suite of language
and legal tools which consistently deliver efficient and cost-effective
outcomes on FCPA due diligence and compliance matters."
Additional FCPA events will be held in major cities throughout the U.S.
in coming months.
In addition to Merrill Brink International's translation and
multilingual document review services, Merrill Corporation's complete
legal solutions include: client advisory services, early case assessment
services and technology, data acquisition and hosting, on-site and
