USF Poly Opens Student Health Clinic
Lakeland, Florida- The University of South Florida Polytechnic last week expanded its student services by opening a student health clinic on campus. Open to all USF Poly students, the center is staffed by an advanced registered nurse practitioner from the Polk County Health Department. The nurse can provide services to students with colds, flu, and other illnesses, offer pregnancy tests, write prescriptions and more.
"We are painfully aware of how many students do not have, and cannot afford, health insurance and we hope that this clinic will give them access to medical services even on a small scale," said Dr. Susan Hurley, program director for health and wellness.
Services are made possible through the student health fee and are available at no additional charge to USF Poly students. The health center is open 1:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays when classes are in session.
"We are excited to provide this service to our students through the support of our Student Government Association," said Dr. Jan Lloyd, dean of students and acting assistant vice president for student affairs. "We hope in the future to be able to add more hours as the need appears.
