Mike Huckabee Slams Natalie Portman for Out-Of-Wedlock Pregnancy
By Robert Paul Reyes
"Mike Huckabee is knocking Oscar-winning actress Natalie Portman for her out-of-wedlock pregnancy.
In her Oscar acceptance speech, Portman thanked her fiancé for giving her 'my most important role of my life.'
Huckabee lashed out on the 'The Michael Medved Show,' a conservative talk radio show, saying, "It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children." CBS News
"People see a Natalie Portman who boasts, We're not married but we're having these children and they're doing just fine. I think it gives a distorted image. It's unfortunate that we glorify and glamorize the idea of out-of-wedlock children." Mike Huckabee
Of course, Portman never boasted that she's unmarried and pregnant. Portman and her fiancé are thrilled that they are having a baby, and instead of condemning her Huckabee should rejoice with them. If religious concerns preclude Huckabee from publicly expressing his joy for them, then he should simply shut up.
I'm a progressive, but I like Mike Huckabee: He's personable, intelligent, humorous and charismatic.
Even though Huckabee is a former Baptist minister, he's not a holier-than-thou type. In 2007 he wasn't so cruel when talking about the then 16-year-old pregnant Jamie Lynn Spears:
"I hope it is not an encouragement to other 16-year-olds who think that is the best course of action... I'm not going to condemn her... There'll be plenty of people in line to and I always look for the shortest lines. I just hope that she will make another right decision, and that's to give that child all the love and kindness and care that she can."
Why was Huckabee pandering to the far-right radio host, Micahel Medved? I think it has everything to do with the fact that Huck plans to run for president. To win the Republican presidential nomination a candidate must appeal to the far right.
Huckabee is the best of a rotten bunch and I hope he wins the Republican nomination, but let's pray that the good reverend doesn't lose his soul in the process.
