New Report Helps Floridians Understand Immigration Debate

A report released today by the Collins Center for Public Policy offers a careful analysis of immigration in Florida. The report - In Plain Sight - A guide to Florida's immigration debate - describes Florida's immigration history, examines the legal questions raised by state intervention, tracks the proposed legislation in Florida, and offers insights and opinions from scholars, think tanks and advocacy groups on the impact of immigration - legal and illegal - on the state.

Florida ranks third among all states in the number of unauthorized immigrants and state lawmakers are now considering measures to reduce those numbers. The intent of this report is to help Floridians understand the debate over the state's unauthorized immigrant population.

The Collins Center has also developed a web site - http://immigration.collinscenter.org - to provide additional information and resources on this controversial issue. "The laws being considered in Florida could have an enormous impact on our citizens and our state economy," said Rod Petrey, president of the Collins Center. "The report and web site have been developed to help Floridians understand not only what is going on in Florida but what is happening in other states and at the federal level."

The Collins Center analysis offers background information, links to other resources and news stories, as well as information on previously released studies on this same issue. The report is available on the Collins Center web site - www.CollinsCenter.org.
