Telemundo's Epic Original Production La Reina Del Sur Delivers Highest Premiere Ratings in Network History
MIAMI - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Telemundo, a leading producer of high-quality content for Hispanics in
the U.S. and audiences around the world, today announced its NTI results
for the February 28 premiere of the network's most ambitious original
novela to date, La Reina del Sur (Queen of the South). La
Reina del Sur, starring renowned cross-over actress Kate del
Castillo, delivered on average, 1,534,000 Adults 18-49 and 2.4 million
total viewers (Persons 2+) tuned in to the premiere last night, making
it the most-watched novela premiere in Telemundo's history.
These results are on the heels of an exceptional February performance
where Telemundo finished the month as the only major Spanish-language
broadcast network with year-over-year growth, while all other major
Spanish-language Broadcast networks experienced declines.
La Reina del Sur's performance among Women 18-49 averaged
779,000 and 755,000 among Men 18-49. The premiere also delivered 895,000
Adults 18-34. The novela's delivery among Adults 18-49 increased in the
second half hour by +22% (10-10:30pm 1,379,000; 10:30-11pm 1,679,000).
Locally, La Reina del Sur was #1 among Spanish-language stations
in New York, Miami, Houston, Chicago and Las Vegas.
Across all stations in the market, La Reina del Sur gave
Telemundo a #1 ranking in New York, Miami and Houston, #3 in Los Angeles
and #5 in Dallas and Chicago.
It was the highest rated novela premiere ever for Telemundo in Houston,
the second-highest rated premiere ever in Los Angeles, the highest rated
premiere in the last five years for the network in New York and the
second-highest rated premiere ever in Chicago among Adults 18-49.
The premiere of La Reina del Sur also broke records for Telemundo
on mobile and digital platforms. Over 30,000 unique visitors viewed
exclusive teaser content, including interviews and extra scenes not seen
on television. Over 10,000 fans interacted with Telemundo's 30-minute
"made for broadband pre-show" starring Kate del Castillo and the cast of La
Reina del Sur. The novela's website on Telemundo.com generated over
80,000 unique visitors and 150,000 video streams. Additionally, Reina
del Sur's Facebook fans have surged to 17,000.
Telemundo developed a special section for fans on Telemundo.com,
dedicated to "La Reina del Sur" with exclusive material from this
production, including pictures, behind-the-scenes videos, cast
interviews and much more. "Viewsers" will also be able to meet "La Fan
Infiltrada" (a behind-the-scenes view) www.Telemundo.com/Novelas/Fan_Infiltrada,
a camera that takes users to places that very few can access.
La Reina Del Sur is Telemundo's most ambitious production to
date. Based on Arturo Perez Reverte's bestseller, La Reina del Sur
tells the story of the legendary character Teresa Mendoza, played by the
renowned cross-over actress Kate del Castillo, who is forced to
transform herself from a young innocent girl to a woman tough enough to
survive in the ugly and dangerous world of drug trafficking. A humble
young woman from Sinaloa, Mexico, Teresa's life takes a drastic turn
when she falls in love with the wrong man, the handsome El Guero Avila
(Rafael Amaya). El Guero was a Chicano pilot from San Antonio, Texas
involved in drug trafficking for the powerful drug lord, Epifanio Vargas
(Humberto Zurita).The woman who emerges surprises those who even know
her legend, that of the Queen of the South. Produced in high definition
by Telemundo Studios, La Reina del Sur was shot on location in
Morocco, Mexico, Spain and Colombia.
