SoCal Connected Investigates 'Double Dipping' Public Employees
'SoCal Connected'looks Into One Retirement Option That Results in Big Pay Outs for Police and Fire Employees in All New Episode Airing March 3 At 9:00 P.M
Los Angeles- At a time when public pensions are under increased scrutiny, SoCal Connected investigates one generous program for L.A. city police and firefighters.
When officers and firefighters retire from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD), one option allows them to return to work after one day - and continue to earn both a salary and their pension. This week on SoCal Connected Correspondent Judy Muller shines a light on this little-known benefit that grants up to a million dollar payouts for some public safety retirees. "Double Dipping?" - an all-new episode on Thursday, March 3 at 9:00 p.m. It's the second installment of "Show Me the Money," an ongoing series of investigations that focus on money and influence - who pays and who benefits.
Next in "Swept Away," Correspondent Laurel Erickson reports on how some California communities are taking a different approach to the problem of rising sea levels due to global warming.
Rather than fight the incoming tides with bigger bulkheads, some communities are retreating, surrendering to the rising waters. Socal Connected shows how nature is turning the tide on coastline communities, forcing them to give up valuable shorefront property.
