Sport&Health Acquires Gold's Gym in Frederick, MD.
MCLEAN, Va. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Sport&Health today announced its acquisition of the former Gold's Gym in
Frederick, Maryland at 5728 Buckeystown Pike. The approximately 30,000
square foot club includes cardiovascular conditioning equipment, circuit
strength training, free weights, a group exercise and indoor cycling
studio, basketball, racquetball, a women-only fitness area, child care
center and other amenities. The acquisition is part of Sport&Health's
multi-year expansion campaign to extend its network of health and
fitness clubs throughout the Washington, DC Metro Area.
"This is an exciting first step into the Frederick market, as
Sport&Health continues to seek out growth opportunities throughout
Maryland, Virginia and Washington, DC," said Sport&Health CEO Mark
Fisher. "We will initially enter Frederick, Maryland by assuming
ownership of this Gold's Gym. The decision was based on the strong
combination of membership and employee base established by the club's
existing manager, Chris Maddox. Additionally, we see strong continued
upside growth in the Frederick market."
Sport&Health recently secured growth capital to fund their expansion
plans through their partnership with Capital One Bank. Sport&Health has
been on a very aggressive club revitalization plan and has renovated
eight of its existing clubs while opening a new club in Brambleton,
Virginia, and recently announcing two new Virginia locations -
Gainesville and Woodbridge - both scheduled to open in December of 2011.
