NEW YORK - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Census Bureau released 2010 U.S. Census state results for Maryland,
Arkansas, Iowa, Indiana and Vermont and Hispanics account for
double-digit growth in each state. According to the data released:
-
The Hispanic population in Maryland doubled and is growing faster than
anticipated based on the most recent Census estimates, accounting for
40% of the minority growth in the state.
-
In Arkansas, the Hispanic population more than doubled with Hispanics
driving 41% of the overall growth in the state. Among those under 18,
Hispanics represent 83% of the minority growth.
-
Hispanics contributed 53% of minority growth in Iowa, while the
non-Hispanic white population shrank.
-
Hispanics in Indiana are growing faster than any other demographic
group in the state and account for 43% of the population growth -
nearly 1 out of every 2 people added to the state in the last decade
is of Hispanic origin.
-
In Vermont, Hispanics are driving 21 % of the growth in the state.
"In the new U.S. Census data released for Maryland, Arkansas, Iowa,
Indiana and Vermont, Hispanic growth is outpacing non-Hispanic growth in
each state by significant double-digit margins. These numbers speak to
the growth of Hispanics nationwide, not only in select states," said
Elizabeth Ellers, executive vice president Corporate Research, Univision
Communications Inc.
