MONTREAL, QUEBEC - (Marketwire - Feb. 11, 2011) - The Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, meets today with nearly twenty Montreal stakeholders. The purpose of the meeting is to bring forward innovative approaches aimed at strengthening infrastructure and the transportation system in the Greater Montreal region.

"Greater Montreal is one of Quebec's most important economic centres. I am very pleased to have the opportunity today to share ideas about the future of economic development in the region. We are committed to work with our stakeholders to identify cost-effective approaches that ensure Canada's cities remain among the best places in the world to live", said Minister Strahl. "The economy remains our number one priority and we will continue to focus on creating jobs for workers, retirement savings for seniors, and the financial security of all Canadian families."

Today's meeting follows similar roundtables recently held in Vancouver,Victoria, Charlottetown and Toronto. Minister Strahl had the opportunity to hear from Canada's leading transportation and infrastructure stakeholders on their views about how to improve the competitiveness of our economy and infrastructure, a key to Canadian growth and prosperity.

"Their ideas will be valuable as we move forward in developing initiatives that account for a wide range of interests that advance not only public- and private-sector economic development, but also the Canadian transportation system as a whole," added Minister Strahl.
