Northrop Grumman Introduces National Health Data Repository for the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records Incentive Programs

MCLEAN, Va., Feb. 11, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation has launched the National Level Repository (NLR) in support of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' (CMS) initiation of registration by eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals for the Medicare and Medicaid Electronic Health Records (EHR) Incentive Programs. The system was completed on schedule and made available to the public on Jan. 3, 2011, the date when registration for the Medicare EHR Incentive Programs and some Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs became available.

The National Level Repository provides CMS with flexible data management solutions as the requirements under the EHR Incentive Programs continue to develop and mature. The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, authorizes incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals that adopt and demonstrate meaningful use of certified EHR technology.

"Implementation of the National Level Repository helps support the nation's providers in continuing to increase their use of electronic health records to improve patient care," said Amy King, Northrop Grumman's vice president of health information technology programs. "We are proud to continue our support of CMS as they successfully move forward to increase the adoption of health information technology across the Medicare and Medicaid programs."

Northrop Grumman will continue to maintain the NLR database as it collects, updates, and processes information that is integral to participants in the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs. Through the compiling of provider-specific information, the repository ensures data confidentiality and combats fraud while it disseminates, tracks and reports on EHR incentive payments to eligible professionals, eligible hospitals and critical access hospitals.

The NLR task order was awarded to Northrop Grumman's Information Systems sector in May 2010 under the Enterprise System Development indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract.

Northrop Grumman's teammates on the program include Companion Data Services, Columbia, S.C.; and InnovTech, Ashburn, Va.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding, and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide. Please visit www.northropgrumman.com for more information.
