New York Times Writer Gail Collins to Speak at Bunker Hill Community College

BOSTON, Feb. 8, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Gail Collins, an op-ed columnist for the New York Times, and award-winning author, will speak at Bunker Hill Community College on Tuesday, February 22, 2011, at 1 p.m. The event, part of the College's Compelling Conversations speaker series, is free and open to the public, but reservations are required. Collins originally joined the New York Times as a member of the editorial board, and later became an op-ed columnist. In 2001, she became the first woman ever appointed editor of the Times' editorial page. Prior to this, she was a columnist at New York Newsday and New York Daily News. She also founded the Connecticut State News Bureau, which was the largest news service of its kind in the country until its sale in the late 1970s.

She has written widely on women in America, both from an historical and contemporary perspective. Her best-selling books include: When Everything Changed: The Amazing Journey of American Women from 1960 to the Present, America's Women: 400 Years of Dolls, Drudges, Helpmates, and Heroines and Scorpion Tongues: Gossip, Celebrity & American Politicians.

Past speakers in Bunker Hill Community College's Compelling Conversations include: Rosie Perez, Sanjay Gupta, Jehan Sadat, Gloria Steinem, Juan Williams, and Bob Woodward. Bunker Hill Community College is the largest community college in Massachusetts. The College enrolls more than 12,500 students on two campuses and at four satellite locations.
