USF Polytechnic Colloquium Presents 'Corporate IT: Strategy and Vision'
Lakeland, Florida- The University of South Florida Polytechnic invites information technology students and professionals to an Information Technology Colloquium on "Corporate IT: Strategy and Vision" February 16 from noon to 3 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, takes place in Room 2155 of the Lakeland Technology Building at USF Poly.
Larry Giorgio, (title), TAMP Systems, will present "Cloud Computing and Interdependency Risks." Dennis Michael, VP of information technology, FedEx Services, will present an overview of the FedEx IT vision sand strategy, followed by a discussion of summer internships at FedEx.
Sponsored by USF Polytechnic's IT department, the IT colloquium series, established in 2002, features programs designed to expand the scope of traditional computer science education. They provide faculty and students from a variety of academic disciplines to interact with guest experts and interested members of the public on a range of practical topics. Past events have featured themes such as IT in the transportation industry and virtualization trends.
"We use these colloquia as a chance to expose the academic enterprise to what is often described as 'the real world,'" says Dave Armitage, director, Division of Information Technology, and assistant professor, information technology.
"We hope both scholars and practitioners can grow through that interaction. And, of course, it's a great opportunity for our students."
