Hughston Clinic's Champ L. Baker, Jr., Performs ACL Reconstructive Surgery Using Breakthrough Device
COLUMBUS, Ga. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Hughston
Clinic orthopaedic surgeon, Champ
L. Baker Jr., M.D., F.A.C.S., has performed a successful knee
ligament reconstruction procedure using a breakthrough medical device,
ExoShape CL, created by MedShape
Solutions, Inc. ExoShape is a two-part, biocompatible PEEK Altera
interference fixation device that simplifies and improves soft tissue
graft fixation during anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstructive
surgery.
Performing the procedure at Jack
Hughston Memorial Hospital, Dr. Baker, Jr., was the first surgeon to
complete the clinical use of the ExoShape in a human. Performing knee
ligament reconstructive surgery using this device allows the surgeon
unparalleled accuracy in fixating the soft tissue graft to ensure the
most anatomic and stable reconstruction for the patient. PEEK Altera is
biocompatible, meaning the body accepts the material without initiating
any kind of inflammatory response.
"Dr. Baker expressed a keen interest in our technology and matched the
profile of surgeon that we wanted to engage," stated Rick Leach,
MedShape Solutions vice president of marketing. "He's a very eminent
surgeon, well respected within the sports medicine specialty and he is
working within a prestigious organization at the Hughston Clinic. It was
a simple decision for us to work with Dr. Baker."
