Scientists Claim to Find "Holy Grail" of Flu Vaccines

By

British scientists believe they have found a universal flu vaccine that can protect people from all strains of flu, unlike current vaccines that can only target certain strains.

The new vaccine, which targets proteins inside the flu virus, has been successfully tested on humans for the first time and could prevent around a billion people from contracting the virus.

It is hoped that one jab of this new vaccine could prevent a person catching flu for up to 10 years, thus avoiding the need to receive annual jabs which offer no guarantee of protection.

Naturally, some further tests will be required, but it could be good news for those worried about catching seasonal flu, or even swine flu, which the scientists say the vaccine can also provide protection for.

Holy Grail of Flu Vaccines

There are of course a few things that we need to worry about. The first is how long will it take to be available on the market? And if it really is as good as they say, will "Big Pharma" allow such a product to be sold?

At the moment "Big Pharma" makes a fortune selling seasonal vaccines and medicine to "help" ease the symptoms of flu and I doubt if they would agree to a product that could see their profits tumble.

My guess is that this new vaccine will never make it to the market place, unless "Big Pharma" buys the patent for it. And if they decide to sell it, you can be sure it will cost at least ten times more than a usual jab, to make up for the annual vaccinations they would lose.

There have been many "breakthroughs" announced over the years, where scientists have found new ways to cure old problems, but can anyone remember any of these actually becoming available? Sure, it takes time to test a new product (unless it is a flu vaccine produced by Big Pharma), but surely at least one should have appeared by now?

In truth, there are probably cures available for diabetes, cancer and many other diseases, but there is no profit (for Big Pharma) in having healthy people!
