PennFuture Beats Clean Wisconsin in Enviro Bowl 2011
PITTSBURGH - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Citizens for Pennsylvania's Future (PennFuture) announced today that it
had "creamed the Cheeseheads," soundly beating Clean Wisconsin (www.cleanwisconsin.org)
in Enviro Bowl 2011, a competition to see which environmental
organization could raise more money online before the start of the Super
Bowl. The final score of money raised was PennFuture - $7226, Clean
Wisconsin - $4530.
"This victory belongs to Steeler Nation everywhere," said Jan Jarrett,
PennFuture's president and CEO. "We put out the call and the Black and
Gold responded - big time. We got the first points on the board and
never lost our lead, even though Clean Wisconsin came back hard in the
second half.
"The word spread throughout Steeler Nation, with supporters tweeting and
retweeting, liking our Facebook pages, and emailing their friends and
family," said Jarrett. "Everyone got in on the game. Pittsburgh City
Council even declared the week of January 31 - February 6, 2011 PennFuture
Week in the City of Pittsburgh, and urged Steeler fans worldwide to
donate to PennFuture to win Enviro Bowl 2011."
Once the Enviro Bowl 2011 final whistle blew on Sunday at Noon CDT,
Clean Wisconsin changed its Facebook page to Black and Gold for the
Super Bowl game itself. And Clean Wisconsin's Executive Director, Mark
Redsten, in his Steeler Nation alter ego, taped
a video to PennFuture's supporters, thanking them for supporting
PennFuture and bringing home the Enviro Bowl 2011 Championship.
"We want to thank Clean Wisconsin for creating this competition and
inviting us to participate," said Jarrett. "It was great idea, raised
loads of money for protecting the environment and economy in both
Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, and allowed both organizations to have fun
and relate to our supporters in an entirely new and different way.
"Unfortunately, our Steelers were unable to prevail in the big game,"
said Jarrett. "But we hope Green Bay realizes that the Lombardi trophy
is just visiting Green Bay, since it has been in Pittsburgh far more
often. We know our friends at Clean Wisconsin and Green Bay now enjoy
their fourth Super Bowl ring - our Steelers' six rings
will have to wait for a seventh until next year."
PennFuture is a statewide public interest membership organization that
advances policies to protect and improve the state's environment and
economy. PennFuture has experts and attorneys, outreach workers and
communicators, lobbyists and educators, all working with local groups
and citizens across the state to adopt and enforce great public policy.
