After years of watching and experiencing the moral decline around the world, Dowd decided to use his talents to expose the problems in a new art reality series. He hopes it will open people's eyes to what they are doing, and convince them to change.
The art series came about because quite frankly he's tired of the self-centered nature, abuse, and corruption. He feels we as human beings need to take others into consideration, and not do whatever we want to because the reaction to one's deeds can be negative to someone else.
"Over the years I've watched brilliant students die or drop out of school from drugs and alcohol. I've seen young girls raped and pregnant. I've watched aggressive drivers, and drunk drivers devastate lives, and I've watched children tell their parents and authorities off, having no respect for them or the law" says Dowd. "It's time to change this destructive behavior, and sometimes seeing it is more powerful than hearing it on the news."
Dowd feels he has the ability to create works of art that will shock the community and nation. He hopes by shocking people with staged scenarios, he will spark some fire in people's lives to self examine and help change the world for the better. He doesn't care if it's someone changing their own lives, or helping someone else change as long as a positive outcome is reached.
He knows some people will find the photos offensive, but its that exact emotion that can change the status quo and create a better life and better world for us to live in.
This past weekend Dowd shot the first set of the new art series called "Love Hurts". This series targets domestic violence, namely spousal abuse.
Domestic violence and spousal abuse happens far too often. Sadly it takes place in front of children who are helpless to protect their mom or dad. It comes in two forms, physical and mental abuse. The way we talk to our spouse or loved ones, can be transferred to our children who watch and listen. They can grow up to mimic the behavior their parents displayed, thinking it's perfectly normal behavior.
Abusive behavior can land people in jail, some take the abuse so far that someone loses their life; which can end up with them losing their life by the state.
It's a vicious cycle that needs to be curbed, but it takes each and every one of us to change. We must stand up against this behavior, encourage positive actions, and discipline the negative actions.
"I hope my work will open eyes, spark emotions and show people what they look like to others; only then can people change" says Dowd and adds "This is something I can't fail at, because it could change lives for the better, and that is the whole purpose for me as an artist. There is too much at stake."
Michael Jackson's song "Man in the Mirror" is the inspiring song that sparks Dowd to pursue this controversial series. Songs inspire Dowd, which he transposes through his work; this song is so powerful with such a great message behind it, that it made Dowd evaluates his world and what he can do to change.
The art series is not for sale, however he would like to place it on display for the world to see. This series will have no profound effect if it's not shown to the world.
Currently you can see the first set on his facebook fan page at http://facebook.com/dowdstudiosart, and will be coming soon to his website.
Dowd encourages everyone who reads this and sees his art to suggest ideas that he may not be aware of. Your suggestion could help change the world, and may end up as a piece of art.
