Hero Soldier who Saved Comrade After IED Attack is Coming Home

Friends, as we continue our Valentine's Day drive, let's take a moment to remind ourselves of why our troops deserve our support in the form of these care packages. Recently, we ran across this amazing story about a US Army soldier and his display of bravery in the face of danger in Afghanistan.

Sacramento local Jarus Perez was welcomed home by friends and family last week after his unit in Afghanistan was hit by an IED attack. IEDs are the most dangerous enemy our troops face, and the cause of over 60% of casualties. Usually the Taliban forces lie in wait, and spring an ambush on convoys just after the IED explodes.

Even Perez's convoy was hit and despite being injured in the blast, Perez put himself in danger of enemy fire and pulled a comrade who had been knocked unconscious to safety.* Only then did he even think about checking for his own injuries, and when he did, he found that he was bleeding at the hip from shrapnel cuts and had a broken arm.

He was awarded a purple heart and a medal for valor for his actions in saving a fellow soldier.

Troops like Perez are serving and doing heroic acts just like this every day, looking out for their fellow troops and going the extra mile to help a poor Afghan farmer. Send a care package to those troops who are still in Afghanistan serving bravely every day.

Our care packages include a great mix of products that help the troops stay well supplied and comfortable while on deployment. There's nothing worse in the morning than bad coffee, so we're proud to send only the finest gourmet roast to our troops, along with name brand Oreo cookies, the only way to get chocolate that doesn't melt to the desert. The beef jerky is a favorite among our troops, they just love it. And the candy hearts we're sending for Valentine's day have special patriotic messages that will lift the spirits of our troops.

Valentine's Day care packages include special hearts with messages like "Miss You", "Glory", "USA", "Valor", "Honor" and more!

As always, each are package also comes with a special note written by you! This is the most important part of the care package, it's your opportunity to speak to the troops who are receiving these packages and communicate your own personal sense of gratitude.

Here are some samples of what other donors have written for the troops in care packages they sponsored through Move America Forward:

Our troops love to hear from other veterans or families who have sons or daughters currently serving. They also love messages written by kids!
