Brown & Toland 'Goes Red' to Save More Women from Heart Disease

SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 4, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Brown & Toland Physicians is helping combat heart disease this year as a supporter of the American Heart Association Bay Area.

Heart disease is the number one cause of death among women in the United States, killing one in three. Too few women, however, understand the disease or how to prevent it. That's why Brown & Toland has committed to raising awareness and showing women simple changes they can make to keep heart disease from claiming more lives.

Brown & Toland is participating in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 4, celebrating the beginning of American Heart Month. Brown & Toland is also a proud Bay Area sponsor of the American Heart Association Go Red For Women luncheon and BetterU, a free 12-week online program that helps women make the right choices to lead a heart healthy life.

"Everyone knows someone who has been affected by heart disease," said Richard Fish, CEO of Brown & Toland. "By continuing our support of the American Heart Association, we're helping shed more light on this preventable disease, and in the process, save the lives of more women."

This year marks the sixth consecutive year that Brown & Toland Physicians has supported the American Heart Association.

Brown & Toland Physicians, based in San Francisco, is an independent practice association (IPA) of more than 800 physicians serving more than 330,000 HMO and PPO members. Brown & Toland has earned numerous awards for clinical quality and patient satisfaction, and in 2010 was named for the fourth consecutive year an "Elite" Medical Group by the California Association of Physician Groups (CAPG)
