Chinese and Dutch Students Spend a Week Immersed in Minnesota Life and Minnetonka Schools

The students will spend the week of Feb. 5-13 with host families in the Minnetonka School District, shadowing students in class, experiencing their home life and sightseeing in the Twin Cities.

The visit is part of Minnetonka High School's International Studies and Exchange program, an independent study program in which Minnetonka students expand their cultural understanding by establishing a relationship with a student in another country.

Here are some highlights of next week's student visit. Media are welcome at all events.

Monday, February 7

• 8 a.m. - Meet with MHS Principal Dave Adney in MHS Forum
• 9 a.m. - Shadow student partner for the day.
• Noon (Chinese students) - Visit Chinese immersion program at Scenic Heights and Excelsior Elementary Schools

Tuesday, February 8

• 7:05-7:50 a.m. - Visiting students share part of their family history with MHS students, MHS Room 1533
• 9 a.m. - Visit downtown Minneapolis to walk the skyways.
• 10 a.m. - Visit the Mill City Museum
• 7 p.m. - Minnetonka High School Basketball Game, MHS West Gym

Wednesday, February 9

• 8-8:45 a.m. - Shadow a different student.
• Noon - Ice Fishing and Winter Survival Training, French Park, Plymouth

Thursday, February 10

• 8 a.m. - Visit State Capitol
• 10 a.m. - Minnesota History Museum and/or the St. Paul Cathedral
• 2:30 p.m. - Volunteer at Feed My Starving Children, Chanhassen
• 5 p.m. - Dinner Reception at High School
• 7 p.m. - Minnetonka High School Hockey Game, MHS Pagel Center

Friday, February 11

• 8:30 a.m. - Theatre Performance at High School
• 10 a.m. - Shadow a different student.
• 6-8 p.m. - Minnetonka Chinese New Year Event, MHS
