Wedgewood Pharmacy Introduces Two New Dosage Forms for Veterinary Use: medi
melts and Quad tabs
SWEDESBORO, N.J. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Veterinary medicine can only work if an animal takes it. So Wedgewood
Pharmacy has added two new, compliance-friendly dosage-forms to its
veterinary formulary of custom-compounded medications: mediâ¢melts
and Quad
tabs . Designed to improve compliance with medication regimes, they
join an array of unique dosage-forms like Gourmeds,
Tiny
Tabs, Bitter
Block , Twist-a-Dose
and low-dust
granules that are available exclusively from Wedgewood Pharmacy.
mediâ¢melts: the medicine stays put.
For sicker animals, that may have difficulty swallowing, or for animals
that reject any medication, mediâ¢melts may be the perfect solution.
Mediâ¢melts look like a standard tablet but are designed so "the medicine
stays put." Mediâ¢melts are lightly compressed so they disintegrate
rapidly on an animal's tongue, creating a paste that cannot be
rejected. A tasty chicken-liver flavor makes it seem like a treat for
the animal. The first medications available in this dosage form are
Metronidazole 50mg and Tramadol 10mg.
Quad tabs: It's a snap.
Quad tabs are traditional tablets scored twice for maximum flexibility
in dispensing and dosing, allowing a veterinarian to dispense up to four
doses from each tablet. The precision scoring makes it easy to snap-off
one-half or one-quarter of a tablet with ease. Quad tabs allow
veterinarians to dispense needed medications for animals of different
sizes, eliminating delays at the beginning of a medication regime that
may result from not having the proper dosage sizes on hand. Initially,
Amlodipine (as Besylate) 1.25mg/tab, Atenolol 12.5 mg/tab, Benazepril
HCl 2.5mg/tab and Phenoxybenzamine HCl 5mg/tab are available in this
dosage form.
Jodi Donohue, Wedgewood Pharmacy's animal-health category leader said,
"Veterinarians are always looking for new ways to improve compliance
with medication regimes. They realize that better compliance not only
results in better health for their patients, but in greater satisfaction
and loyalty from their customers, the pet owners."
