Aggreko Beats Big Freeze to Power Football's Big Game

DALLAS - (BUSINESS WIRE) - The Green Bay Packers and Pittsburgh Steelers professional football teams won't be the only power on display at Cowboys Stadium this Sunday, during football's annual championship game. As the Dallas/Fort Worth area experiences some of the coldest winter temperatures in decades, Aggreko, the global leader in temporary power generation and temperature control solutions, will provide large-scale power generation and heating for the entire event, including the half-time show.

Following months of planning and preparation, Aggreko's major events division will power everything from lighting and video during The Black Eyed Peas' half-time performance to stadium security. Aggreko will also provide power and temperature control for the international media compounds broadcasting the event to a worldwide television, internet and radio audience.

"This is Aggreko's 21st year supporting the big game and its many festivities, and each event brings a unique experience," said Gordy Broussard, Vice President, National Sales and Marketing, Aggreko North America. "As they say, everything is bigger in Texas, and the sheer size of the new stadium makes this one of Aggreko's largest supply of uninterrupted power and heating for a single event."

Aggreko will also power both teams' practice facilities and several celebration sites and VIP areas. Services include:

  • 13 MWs of generator power - enough for approximately 3,000 medium-sized homes
  • 4600 kW of heating
  • Approximately 50 miles of cable distributed in and around the stadium

"This job requires finding creative ways to distribute 50 miles of cable in and around the building and install temporary utilities while keeping the area safe and not detracting from the beauty of this amazing facility," said Broussard.

Aggreko will have the support of its national network of more than 50 service centers and a team of 12 dedicated employees, who began installing the complex array of equipment weeks prior to the game. Dismantling will require an additional two weeks after the final whistle blows.

Aggreko is highly experienced in providing reliable electrical power and climate-control solutions for television broadcasts, movie productions, the world's largest sporting events, concert tours, major corporate events and the most high-profile events in the world, including the 2009 Presidential Inauguration and the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

Editor's Notes

Aggreko plc is the world leader in the supply of temporary power and temperature control solutions. Aggreko employs over 4,000 people operating from over 144 locations. In 2009 we served customers in about 100 countries, and had revenues of approximately GBP 1.0bn (USD 1.6bn or Euros 1.1bn). Aggreko plc is listed on the London Stock Exchange (AGK.L), is a member of the FTSE-100 index, and is headquartered in Scotland. For more information, please visit the company website at www.aggreko.com.

Aggreko provides power and temperature control solutions to customers who need them either very quickly, or for a short or indeterminate length of time. Examples would be the supply of power to an industrial site which needs to service its permanent power supply, supplying a whole city in times of power shortage, or providing a major sporting event with power and cooling systems. We serve our customers either through our 144 service centers, which we call the Local Business, or globally through our International Power Projects business.

In the Local business, which accounts for about half of our revenues, we hire our equipment to customers, who then operate it for themselves, although we retain responsibility for servicing and maintaining it. In the International Power Projects business, which also accounts for about half of our revenues, we operate as a power producer. We install and operate power plants and we charge our customers both for providing the generating capacity, and for the electricity we produce. We design and manufacture equipment specifically for these requirements in our factory in Dumbarton, Scotland.

Recent customers include the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and the power utilities in over 50 countries including the UK, France, Angola, Kenya, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Venezuela, Chile, Brazil and the USA.
