Snowstorm Means Short Term Pain and Long Term Gain for Retailers

CHICAGO, Feb. 1, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Brad Wilson, Founder and Editor-in-Chief, of BradsDeals.com is predicting an increase in online shopping as Americans from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Ocean are hit with one of the strongest storms in decades.

Weather plays a big role in shopping patterns. When people are snowed in for days on end they head to the only store that is open – the internet. While brick and mortar stores may take a hit this week, online shopping numbers are expected to spike.

"A storm like this also has the ability to extend demand for seasonal goods." Wilson informed. "Stores and brands specializing in seasonal attire like North Face, REI and Erehwon will move more merchandise this week.  On the flip side, all the spring shorts, swimsuits, and sandals hitting store shelves might gather a bit of dust while America is busy digging out."

Shoppers should not forget to grab a coupon code before shopping online. "Probably 90% of the online stores you'd shop at have a coupon code on any given day. The average BradsDeals reader takes less 90 seconds to find a coupon code that saves them 24% on average on their purchase,"Wilson informed.

Though several have expected a spending diet for 2011, Wilson suggests now is the time to shop as deals are getting better post-holiday season.

Wilson noted, "Retailers recognize this as an opportunity to move more winter gear and will be aggressively cutting prices.  This is a buyer's market."

Travel is another example of short term pain, long term gain.  While travel will be disrupted for the next few days, Wilson believes this blizzard will only reinforce the desire to get out of town once the storm dies down.

"February is a time when you see a lot of people taking weekend trips and mini vacations. I expect a lot of flight and hotel reservations to be made over the next few days are people seek relief from the winter blues." Wilson stated.

Deals on travel and spring and winter attire can be found everyday at BradsDeals.com.
