AFGE's Response to State of the Union Address on 'Inside Government'

WASHINGTON, Feb. 1, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Tune in now to AFGE's "Inside Government" for the union's response to President Obama's State of the Union address. The show, which originally aired on Friday, Jan. 28, is now available on demand.

AFGE National President John Gage reacted to the State of the Union address and President Obama's proposed five-year federal spending freeze. Gage also discussed AFGE's efforts to combat the attack on federal workers and protect the valuable services they provide.

Grantham University President Dr. Fredrick Snow then addressed a number of undergraduate and graduate degrees available through the online university as well as special discounts for AFGE members.

Lastly, James Green, author of "Death in the Haymarket: A Story of Chicago, the First Labor Movement and the Bombing That Divided Gilded Age America," shared the story of the Haymarket affair, which proved to be a key piece in the labor movement's history. Green also discussed labor's struggle for better working conditions in the mid-1880s, including the fight for an eight-hour workday.
