'Dynasty' to Hit The Big Screen Again

While Dallas looking to saddle back up to the small screen on TNT, Dynasty may strike box office oil, as creators Richard and Esther Shaprio are planning a big-screen prequel of the nighttime soap that will focus on Blake Carrington in his twenties romancing teenager Alexis Morrell during the 1960s.

The film will also include Blake engaging in a battle with his half-siblings over his rights to be a Carrington and ends with him and Alexis getting married.

Dynasty lasted on ABC from 1981-89, and starred John Forsythe as the dashing Blake, Linda Evans as second and saintly wife Krystle, Joan Collins as bitter ex-wife Alexis, the b***h we all loved to hate, Emma Samms as Fallon, and Heather Locklear as Sammy Jo. Dubbed as "Dallas with oil", it was widely best known for its campy, over-the-top storylines and the catfights between Alexis and Krystle.

The series spawned The Colbys, which lasted two seasons on ABC from 1985 to 1987.

Like Dallas paving the way for it and other primetime serials like spin-off Knots Landing (1979-93) and Falcon Crest (1981-90), Dynasty also paved the way for Melrose Place (1992-99), where Heather joined the cast midway its first year as vixen Amanda Woodward, and kept the show's lease going for seven successful seasons.

Al Corley, who originated the role of bisexual Steven Carrington during Dynasty's first two seasons, would like to produce the film, since the actor now has a production company. Corley was then succeeded by Heroes' Jack Coleman, who portrayed Steven from 1983 to 1988.

If this film is a success, there are plans for a possible Dynasty franchise that might be include the births of Carrington heirs Adam, Fallon, Steven, and Amanda, the divorce of Blake and Alexis, and a first look of baby Krystle.
