Medica Symphony Plays to Market Need for Family Plans
MINNETONKA, Minn. - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Medica today announced the debut of Medica SymphonySM, a new
family-focused plan for people who purchase health insurance on their
own. The plan is available for family coverage or as a self-only policy.
It features a benefit package similar to those found in
employer-sponsored coverage including unlimited copayments for office
calls, and low copayments for convenience care and generic prescription
drugs.
"Medica Symphony is in tune with the marketplace," said Dannette
Coleman, Medica vice president of individual and family business.
"Individuals and families increasingly are purchasing health coverage on
their own and this plan meets their needs by providing a valuable
benefit package at an affordable price."
In-network preventive care is covered at 100 percent with no copayment.
Medica Symphony also features maternity coverage, with 100 percent
coverage for prenatal care. The plan's standard pharmacy benefit covers
preferred generic prescription drugs with a $10 copayment, while
preferred brand name drugs are available at Medica's discounted rate.
Plan members also may purchase a tiered pharmacy benefit that adds
coverage for preferred brand drugs with a $50 copayment, non-preferred
drugs with a $100 copayment and preferred generic drugs with a $10
copayment.
A range of deductible options are offered for both the family and
self-only versions. Qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses by all
people covered under a policy will contribute to meeting the deductible
of the selected plan.
Medica began selling the product in Minnesota and North Dakota with an
effective coverage date of January 1, 2011. Already, several hundred
people have enrolled in the plan. Medica plans to introduce Medica
Symphony in South Dakota this spring.
