Prominent Athens Physician Dr. Ram Reddy Suggests Resolutions To Improve Life and Health
ATLANTA - (BUSINESS WIRE) - Prominent Athens physician Dr. Ram Reddy suggests developing a New
Year's Resolution that focuses on improving your life and health rather
than on broad unattainable goals.
"Most of us make a resolution with every intent on keeping it," states
Dr Reddy, "but the reality is the majority of resolutions are broken
before the end of the year, if not within the first few months. However,
the added pressure of the economic environment has forced many to
evaluate their current state- both mentally and physically."
As Medical Director for Reddy Medical Group, Reddy Urgent Care and Yuva
Medical Spa, Dr. Reddy recommends a modified approach to staking a
resolution, instilling lifelong changes, most of which are easily
achievable. His top 10 picks for improving your health physically and
mentally in 2011 and beyond are:
1. Consult your Doctor. Get a thorough examination, including blood work
to assess your current state of health and follow the doctor's
recommendations for areas that require attention such as cholesterol
levels, high-blood pressure and chronic ailments. Now, many insurers
including Medicare allow yearly physicals.
2. Cut back on high-fat and processed foods...eat more fresh fruits,
vegetables and nuts.
3. Limit exposure to tobacco products; even if you're a non-smoker...
steer clear of enclosed venues that are frequented by smokers.
4. Increase physical activity! Choose the stairs instead of the
elevator, walk every chance you get or a 30 minute brisk walk 5 times a
week. The activity will stimulate the heart as well your metabolism and
relieves stress.
5. Drink more water, at least 8-10 glasses a day! Avoid soft drinks.
6. Get sufficient sleep, at least 7-9 hours a day.
7. Set aside regular special family time! Turn off the cells phone,
electronic games and TV. Play a board game, cards, go on a walk, or have
a meal together.
8. Volunteer for a charity. Many non-profits are struggling; you may
have a special trait or skill that can be utilized. Answer phones,
distribute supplies, be a dog walker at the local animal shelter or
teach lessons in music, crafts or sewing.
9. Eliminate toxic friends. Identify and rid yourself of those
individuals who have a negative and destructive impact on you and your
life.
10. Pamper yourself. Schedule time to reward yourself with regular
massage, facial, pedicure, or manicure. Not only do you deserve it, you
will notice increased productivity when you take care of yourself.
By accomplishing small goals, rather than taking on an insurmountable
task - you will build confidence that will encourage you to tackle
larger goals you might previously have considered out of reach. Even
slight changes in lifestyle can improve your overall quality of life
resulting in a happy, healthier you. Take the first step - make small
and manageable- but noticeably effective improvements with one of these
attainable, optimistic goals.
